FiberSIM® 4.2 Software for Composites Design is Now Available

Latest release of FiberSIM features new user interface, new 3D documentation tools and enhanced functionality for fiber placed parts

WALTHAM, Mass., March 15, 2004 — VISTAGY, Inc., the leading developer of computer-aided-design (CAD) integrated software for composite design and manufacturing, released its newest version of software that enables engineers working with CAD systems to design products made of lightweight, high-performance composite materials. FiberSIM® 4.2 features major improvements in the user interface that make it more intuitive to use, significant new 3D documentation tools, and enhanced design functionality for fiber placed parts.

The latest user interface benefits from three major new components:• A new toolbar

• Tiered editing

• Enhanced table view editing

The new toolbar includes buttons for frequently used commands like Create, Create Based On, Delete, Modify, etc. that reduce the number of mouse clicks it takes to perform routine tasks, improving the efficiency with which the software can be used. In addition, FiberSIM 4.2 includes tiered editing functionality that allows users to edit FiberSIM objects from within another object. For example, while editing a ply, users can now choose to modify, create, or delete a referenced laminate in addition to selecting a laminate. This functionality is available in every FiberSIM object that has a link to another FiberSIM object. And FiberSIM’s enhanced table view editing allows you to conveniently edit multiple FiberSIM components in a spreadsheet-like fashion and features a new cleaner look and keyboard accelerators.

Also new in FiberSIM 4.2 is additional functionality to completely document composite parts in 3D. Improvements now allow users to create Ply Table Annotations that list plies and cores for a user-selected laminate. The user selects a laminate and a 3D text annotation and FiberSIM will display the resulting ply and core information. FiberSIM will automatically update the ply table when the user makes a change to the composite definition. The software also allows users to create Ply Callout Annotations that list the plies and cores located near a user-selected point. The Ply Callout will display all ply and core objects defined on a laminate at a specified point. And FiberSIM now colors 3D cross sections based on the ply orientations. This helps the user visualize the plies and their orientations for a cross section of the composite part.

Lastly, FiberSIM 4.2 includes improved support for the design and validation of fiber placed parts, particularly for multi-boundary parts. FiberSIM now supports design stations, laser data creation, and cross section documents for fiber placed parts.

About FiberSIM®

FiberSIM is a suite of software that turns major CAD systems into advanced tools for designing and manufacturing composite parts. The software enables engineers to create a complete digital product definition of a composite part within their 3D modeling environment. FiberSIM tools automate design and analysis and generate manufacturing information including documentation, flat patterns, and data to drive laser projectors, automated cutters and fiber placement machines. FiberSIM uses XML technology to share composites data with people and applications throughout the enterprise, such as software for procurement, quality assurance, cost modeling and manufacturing.
