Accelerate Development of First Article Inspection Plans for Composite Parts
The first article inspection (FAI) process is a critical step towards certifying a component. Verifying that a design has been manufactured according to specification is accomplished by satisfying all requirements identified on an inspection plan. The development of FAI plans for composite parts using model-based designs is a manual and error-prone process. Using Vistagy’s Fibersim composites engineering software in conjunction with its Quality Planning Environment (QPE) eliminates the tedious task of consuming the engineering definition into the quality plan.
Composite product data is imported into the Quality Planning Environment from Fibersim using the Composite Quality Connector (CQC). The QPE is then used to complete the inspection plan by creating all the additional content for the AS9102 quality plan. The solution automatically consumes the complete engineering type design definition, including:
- Laminate stackup data
- Composite materials
- Fiber orientations
- Notes and specifications
- Dimensions and geometric tolerances (GTOLS).
Fibersim is used in conjunction with Quality Planning Environment to help quality engineers:
- Reduce the time it takes to generate quality plans for composites by as much as 90 percent
- Consume engineering data for composite parts to quickly generate FAI plans
- Deliver complete and accurate quality reports to reduce documentation rework and minimize the risk of product shipment delays.
